Traditional, yet Unconventional - Sophisticated, yet Approachable
Our Wines
We have set out to bring you a range of wines that really highlight the two excellent vineyards from which we source our grapes: aromatic whites such as Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling and rich red wines featuring some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in the region.
Immersing ourselves in this project has been humbling and extremely gratifying. Everyone from the growers to the winemaking team, to countless family members and friends who helped make this dream a reality have done it with passion and love.
In the early 20th century there were over sixty vineyards and small wineries in the Niagara region, but prohibition stopped the growth of this exciting industry. By 1960 only six wineries were left.
With prohibition laws starting to relax, a new generation of wineries started to emerge. In the 80’s and by the early 90’s our region started to bring home prestigious international wine awards. As a result, the Niagara Region is recognized not only for its natural beauty, but also for its world class wines.
In 2019, over a couple of glasses of wine, we asked ourselves – “Why not create our own brand?”
After three decades of working in the vibrant Niagara wine and hospitality industry we decided that it was time to embark on this new journey and share with you the wines that we are most passionate about.
As the King Family name implies, the blood of ancient monarchs flows through our veins, dating back to 800s in the Scottish Highlands. As a sept of the Clan MacGregor, our historic motto “Royal is my Race” guides us in our winemaking endeavours. In our family’s 13th generation, we call Niagara our home and strive to bring you the best this region has to offer.
Shaped by millions of years of a sub-tropical ocean and the more recent ice age, the Niagara Peninsula is laced with well drained and nutrient rich soils featuring sandy loam, shale, fossil deposits and chunks of granite. Our microclimate is dominated by the elevation of the bordering Niagara Escarpment to the South and the moderating effects of Lake Ontario to the North.
We source our grapes from two distinct vineyards in the heart of the Niagara Peninsula:
- The prestigious Bella Terra Vineyards are recognized for producing some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in the region. Located in the Four Mile Creek sub-appellation, these vineyards date back to 1974 when it was first planted by the Puglisi family.
- The Corus Vineyard is located close by in the Niagara Lakeshore sub-appellation. In comparison a younger vineyard with a long fruit farm history that has quickly shown to be a great source for Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot.
